Age Ain’t Nothin’ But A Number

Aging gracefully

The latef9511884-704e-457f-a6fd-4d73eee9d1f8 artist Aaliyah’s debut album was entitled “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number” and that statement rang so true as Cher celebrated her 70th birthday, and her mother Georgia Holt is going to be 90 in June – how fabulous! There was a time when age was whispered about and boy did we whisper.  When the age of retirement started to approach it was expected that people would slow down and start to disappear.  Retirement is now celebrated, it’s a new lease of life.  What I love about the current energy is that age is no longer priority – life is!!

Energy levels of people in their 60s 70s even their 80s have taken on a completely new outlook and it really is more about what’s inside, how you feel and how you live, as opposed to what age you are and this definitely wasn’t the case 20, 15, even 5 years ago.

Check out Denzel, looking gorgeous with his chocolate brown self at 61

The people who do the best with aging really just don’t think that much about getting older. They’re not focusing on what’s not working anymore. If you sit around and consistently ponder the meaning of existence and how your time is running out, you’re setting yourself up to not age successfully.

Healthy people over the age of 60 have a more positive outlook on life than people in their 20s. It’s no wonder they are still healthy and active; those who are optimistic have a general tendency toward living life well.

“The story used to be that satisfaction with life went downhill as we age, but the remarkable thing that researchers are finding is that doesn’t seem to be the case,” says Timothy Salthouse, a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia.

“Older adults typically report better marriages, more supportive friendships, less conflict with children and siblings and closer ties with members of their social networks than younger adults,” says Prof. Fingerman, co-author of a study that found older adults have “a higher rate of close ties than younger people” and fewer “problematic relationships that cause them distress.”

Look, the truth is I could trawl the internet and find images of amazing men and women who don’t look their age and are living life to the full, but each and every one of these people have had experiences that have taken them to another level of life where they have just made the decision to enjoy life …… cut the stress, cut the confusion, and stop focusing on age.
